McAllister Heartland Tour: Wrap Up

With the event seven days removed you could probably guess that our travels home were very uneventful. Rain poured on us for much of the first day. Ashley continued her gem-like state for the two days of driving. North Platte, Nebraska is know a familiar site on the map and along I-80.

One interesting experience of emotions that I went through was discovered as we chased the setting sun on our return trip. As we headed east, back to the place of my childhood, I felt very little emotion about returning "home." Once landmarks and surroundings became more familiar - the closer we got to Morton - the feeling of returning home began to set in. Being from the midwest is apart of who I am and it was nice to be in familiar surroundings again, although they've changed almost unrecognizably.

I love reuniting with my siblings and parents. Geoff made a great point about being the youngest. He mentioned that he liked having five siblings to watch to see how they meet the challenges of life so that he can be prepared for his own. Seeing each of the families of my siblings I enjoyed seeing the different styles of parenting. It's amazing how we all started from generally the same spot and how we're all becoming wonderfully different.

It was a memorable gathering, one that should be replicated soon. If you have yet to receive our pictures from the trip let me know and I'll email you the link.
